Following the success of our collaboration with Blok Foods, where we created the brand strategy for Mondo and redefined The Greenhouse, the F&B group approached Steves&Co. with a bold new concept. Their vision: a contemporary restaurant that would unite two culinary worlds, Japanese refinement and Peruvian passion, under one name, one identity, and one unforgettable experience.
Our challenge was to bring this fusion to life from the ground up: naming the brand, crafting a distinctive identity, and defining a communication strategy that would cut through Malta’s competitive dining scene. Mamachi needed to feel fresh yet authentic, sophisticated yet approachable – a place where design, flavour, and culture could meet.
Every great brand begins with a story. Ours started with a name, Mamachi, a word designed to feel warm, familiar, and rooted in harmony. It symbolises the fusion at the heart of the restaurant: the artistry of Japan meeting the vibrancy of Peru. The name was chosen for its memorability, musicality, and emotional resonance – a perfect fit for a dining concept built on connection.
From there, we shaped a visual language that embodied this duality. Drawing from cultural research, we merged two powerful emblems, the Japanese sun and the Incan Sun God, into a single, radiant mark. This symbol, rendered in a striking golden 3D finish, became the centrepiece of Mamachi’s identity: a visual metaphor for light, warmth, and shared experience.
The colour palette – Chairo, Shiro, Aztec Azul, and Rich Morada, was inspired by both culinary artistry and cultural heritage, balancing elegance with energy. Paired with clean typography and refined composition, it created an identity that felt elevated yet full of life.
We extended this system across every touchpoint, from menus and signage to digital and environmental design, ensuring consistency and cohesion. The tone of voice, sophisticated but inviting, celebrated curiosity and cultural discovery. Our tagline, “Japanese Finesse. Peruvian Fire.”, distilled the brand’s spirit into four simple words.
The website brought the experience online. Designed with seamless UX/UI, it introduced guests to Mamachi’s world through cinematic visuals, intuitive navigation, and a strong call to action for reservations. Across social channels and campaigns, we built anticipation through content that immersed audiences in the brand’s story – its flavours, craftsmanship, and creative energy.
Mamachi’s launch marked an immediate shift in Malta’s dining landscape. The brand resonated deeply with both locals and travellers, quickly establishing itself as one of the island’s most talked-about culinary destinations.
Beyond design, our strategy built emotional connection – translating fusion cuisine into a full sensory experience that guests could see, taste, and feel. The restaurant saw strong footfall from opening week, driven by social buzz, press coverage, and word of mouth. Reservations climbed steadily, fuelled by cohesive storytelling across digital and physical channels.
Today, Mamachi stands as a testament to how culture, creativity, and strategy can blend to create something extraordinary – a restaurant that doesn’t just serve food, but tells a story.
